Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin’-race!
Aboon them a’ ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye worthy o’ a grace
As lang’s my arm.

The Village Burns’ Night

Well! thanks again to the hall committee for arranging another excellent Burns’ night supper.  Not forgetting the catering volunteers who made the evening run smoothly and provided such excellent fair.

The evening was packed, even though the weather was bad outside, the warmth of the food and the entertainment from the musicians engaged everyone’s attention away from the late January storm. The Chairman of the Hall committee Mr Chris Hoyle conducted the proceedings and invited Willie Wilson to give the Selkirk Grace.

DSCN0444There were some excellent traditional Burns evening toasts, with a memorable and somewhat theatrical address to the Haggis by Mr David Small and DSCN0449a well-considered appreciation of the importance of the imortal Bard himself and the impact of his life on the world as a whole was given by Mr Lawrence Fraser

Finally, the address to the Lassies and the Lassies reply Presented by Gordon Smith and replied too by Denise Kelly  brought the usual hilarity to the event with courteous jestful jibes, each declaring genders prowess with witful scorn  bringing  to the fore  the difference between the sexes and concluding the Burns night celebration.

We hope that next year we again have the chance to celebrate Burns Night at the village hall.
