Garden Tips#8

March 20, 2016 by Gwynne Hetherington

When there is even just a little sunshine it is such a tonic to one’s being – it feels great.

Monday and Tuesday we should have some sunny and cloudy days with temperatures of ~10 degrees. Wednesday too, some sunshine with maybe a little drizzle later in the afternoon. Thursday and Friday seem to be dry and sunny with temperatures of ~9 degrees.

Like last week we should get a lot done in our garden, especially finishing cutting back our herbaceous borders. Where we have started it is already looking good with the plants bursting into life.

Any plants which have been bought whether in pots or bare root and planted out in the garden should be watered during the dry spells we are having, at least once a week.

I will need to repot some of the house plants with fresh compost to keep them going through the coming season.

Then there are more vegetable, perennial and annual seeds to sow into seed trays although some annual seeds eg. Poppy and Impatiens and Foxglove seeds which will flower next year since they are biennials I will sprinkle thinly directly onto the ground where they are to flower.

An exciting time in the garden, especially with the sunshine. Lovely to also see the baby lambs appearing. Did you finish your paths leading to sundial as yet? Would love to see a picture when it is finished.

We have made a start, excavating the line of the paths and planted the main structural plants – roses and tree lupins. We will post picture when finished!
