This week’s weather is turning quite chilly at nights, we have turned from Autumn to Winter. With the temperatures dropping to about 5C degrees we have hopefully brought all tender plants into the greenhouse or poly tunnel. Tomorrow we still need to bring the fleece into the greenhouse and cover the plants for the Winter months which makes a big difference to them. The fan heater will keep the greenhouse frost free.
There are still a lot of leaves to come down in the next week or two and we need to rake them up for next year’s leaf mold. Last year’s compost heap is ready to be spread on the vegetable beds when they become vacant. This will hopefully improve soil structure and give the vegetable’s better-growing conditions. The hedge needs to be cut in the next week or two. The bird boxes too, need to be given attention and cleaned out.
During the Winter months, we will be laying more paths with the never-ending supply of stones. Also, we will be exposing the ground level walls of the 18th century ruined farmhouse to show the footprint of the building. No doubt there will be plenty to occupy us for the next few months.
Our garden will rest till Spring when all being well, all kinds of surprises will show themselves.
