What a lovely day we have had today, turning showery tonight so very convenient! Tuesday and Wednesday look to be dry and cloudy followed by a chilly night. Thursday we will see sunny spells through the clouds and Friday it is still dry and cloudy. Temperatures this week are between 10 and 12C degrees.
We are still playing catch-up regarding taking down weak and misshapen pine trees. Plenty to get on with for a week or two.
Our bird boxes need to be cleaned out ready for next Spring and for sheltering any birds over winter.
Then another big tidy up of the herbaceous borders with cutting back and dividing and replanting the perennial plants. After that a good mulch of home made compost and well rotted horse manure. Again this task will take two or three weeks.
Before too long we will cover the carrots and parsnips with a fine metal mesh, (that is to prevent any voles or mice helping themselves before us) and then topping off with a thick felt against any hard frost. We leave those root crops in the ground and dig up as we need any.
The geese are giving us huge pleasure flying out in the morning and back over at dusk.
