A cooler week ahead with westerly to north-westerly winds, with temperatures coming down from today’s of 19, to 15 degrees C on Friday. Although the sun is shining at the moment we are having a very showery day. Tuesday morning seems dry with more showers in the afternoon. Unsettled for Wednesday with a sunny day on Thursday. Damp and showery day for Friday. Definitely a mixed bag this week, we won’t need to water the garden!
We will be picking soft fruit and peas and broad beans during the dry spells and processing them in the damp spells.
Weeding and dead-heading in the borders is a continuing task. So too are the earwig traps, I put around the rhododendrons and other plants showing signs of damage – holes in the leaves – which need checking and the disposing of the hundreds of earwigs caught in the traps!
The Plum trees need a prune to remove damaged, weak and crossing branches.
A good time for taking cuttings of hardy Fuchsias and Buddleias.
