Garden Tips#24

July 10, 2016 by Gwynne Hetherington

Who can remember having such a downpour in July? Certainly no watering to be done in the garden! Monday still looks a bit murky in the morning drying up in the afternoon. The rest of the week looks good and dry with temperatures of 16 – 18 degrees, settling with a high pressure for the weekend.

Hurray, we finished the bug hotel and the rockery, both looking great, the rockery plants need to settle in and spread, but time will see to that.

The weeds love this damp, warm weather so we will get on to them this week. Also I have sown some foxglove seeds and wallflower, both to plant in their final place in the autumn.

It took courage on my part to cut down some poppies (so says Monty) and see if they will have a second flowering this season. It will be an experiment on our part and if successful will try the same with geraniums! Some plants will need repotting to their next size up, and plenty of dead-heading in the borders and the roses.

Enjoy the scent of flowers walking round your garden!
