What a chilly week we have had. This week we are going back to warmer days with winds from the south-west to westerly direction. Monday looks like the best day of the week with one or two showers, a cloudy day and about 13 degrees. Tuesday a bit cooler, and overcast and showery day. Wednesday we should have spells of rain and about 14 degrees, Thursday and Friday look like damp, wet days. Just as well the garden will be “singing with joy” at getting some much needed moisture!
We have planted out our brassicas and have covered them with a mesh, (Wondermesh) to keep out any Carrot Root Flies and Cabbage White Butterflies, and secured the edges well down.
I have started to remove faded daffodil and tulip flowers, but have left the foliage to die back. The dahlias will be planted in gaps in the flower border. The sweet peas too will have their place to be planted and watered in.
Ideally I would like to cut the lawn edges and repair any bumps and hollows by peeling back the turf and adding or removing soil where needed, but somehow with this weather I don’t see that happening!
In the poly tunnel the sweetcorn, courgette, pumpkin and squash plants have come on a treat and are ready to plant out in the warm soil of the tunnel.
