Garden Tips#13

April 25, 2016 by Gwynne Hetherington

April is certainly showing us what it can do, sunshine, hail – and snow showers and to top it off, gale winds all in one day, Monday!! Tuesday and Wednesday look pretty much the same. Thursday looks dry for the moment but easterly winds, cold about 6-8 degrees. Friday back to damp conditions.

Certainly enjoyed last week in the garden and the great weather we had, whether we will be getting out this week in our garden is debatable. Particularly this time of year there is so much happening and developing in our gardens so keep checking and enjoy each moment!

That is where I appreciate the poly tunnel, there I can continue pricking out seedlings and potting them up individually. We will lay out and bury the leaky hose so we can sow a variety of lettuce seeds into the soil.

There are a number of small jobs to carry out, but they require warmer conditions so I will leave those till the weather improves, here is hoping!

Here’s hoping indeed … it was lovely last week and we got a lot done in the way of weeding and laying our newly made chip bark. Les has also created a new bed, involving a digger and removal of tree stumps. The bean pole structure has been built also.
Our latest project is a Dutch tower garden, now full of strawberries and a worm compost system in the middle. The postman was a little wary handing over the large tub of live worms that he was delivering… we’ll see how it works.

Most intriguing indeed and a huge amount of work achieved!! Never heard of a dutch tower garden either, we live and learn!
