What a beautiful morning to wake up to! This week the forecast is dominated by high pressure, strong winds on Monday easing from Tuesday onwards, but it should be dry and sunny during the days, about 10 degrees with chilly nights. Friday some early showers with northerly winds, turning once again very cold and frosty nights at the weekend!
Slowly catching up with the chores which seem endless including the hoeing which never got done, deadheading daffodils, some perennials to divide and split followed by a good watering.
My sowings of various seeds have germinated quite well and some are ready to prick out and pot on when they have two seed leaves.
We have some grass seed to sow which is a good time just now with some mild days to come.
On the Gooseberries and Redcurrants we will prune out any inward and crossing stems to (try to) achieve an open goblet shape.
Really beautiful to see the sun today. We also have some germinating seeds and hoping to keep them alive ….
I didn’t know about achieving the goblet shape on gooseberries etc and cutting out crossing pairs, but that makes sense so have stored that nugget of information away to perform next year when our fruit bushes are a little more established.
Good heads up about the frosts at the weekend, we will keep the fleece over the potatoes for the time being and not be in a hurry to plant out some of small perennials and shrubs that are sheltering in the polytunnel. Roll on some consistently warmer weather. Thanks for sharing Gwynne as usual.
