Garden Tips#10

April 4, 2016 by Gwynne Hetherington

The theme continues from our weekend weather, damp and wet on Monday morning, drying up after lunch time. Same for Tuesday, Wednesday showery and damp and ~8 degrees. Thursday and Friday look dry, turning cooler.

The gardens will enjoy this light rain for the next few days, so back to household chores! Although this weather is ideal to plant your shallots and onion sets and to sow early potatoes. I planted a bare  root rose last weekend, (ordered through David Austin),  with plenty of dung and a huge amount of watering. If anyone would like a free handbook of Roses of David Austin let me know or visit their website www.davidaustinroses.com .

David has made a fabulous looking bat box and put it up our sycamore tree, fingers crossed we will attract bats this year to nest.

I have started “tickling” over the herbaceous border and mulching it with compost from last year as I go along and will carry on when the weather allows me to do so.

After that we will continue with our project of our round bed in our lawn and hopefully completing it! David will need to lay 4 narrow paths to meet the sun dial in the middle, there is a challenge!
